Your tax deductible Big Arbor Vitae Lake Association (BAVLA) contributions help us grow awareness and create considerable action to improve our lake’s vulnerabilities: invasive species, beaver dams, stormwater runoff, and shoreland erosion.

 

Since 2021, BAVLA has been a sponsor of the “Clean Boats / Clean Water” program assisted by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), which helps pay boat ramp attendants to inform boaters of methods to prevent the spread of invasive species. We believe this program is essential for the health of the lake. 

 

During Spring of 2023, we allocated funds to an environmental consulting company called Onterra LLC to survey the lake in search of Curly-Leaf Pondweed, an invasive species. Only a handful of plants were found and removed. No other invasive weeds were identified at that time (see map). However, we may need their services in the future.

 

Other funds are being used for assistance with the local beaver population, which has been a nuisance, through the wildlife management program created by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). If we spot a beaver dam, then the USDA will remove it upon request. 

Our collective efforts will ensure future generations will continue to enjoy the lake as much as we do today!
